WHEN discussing consultation and the evidence supporting it in Islamic legal texts, scholars and writers have tended to focus on two particular Qur’anic verses, namely, 42:38 and 3:159. Given the centrality of these two passages to any treatment of the subject of consultation, I will be discussing them in due course.
