One of the central goals of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) is to extend health insurance to the uninsured and improve access to affordable health care. Two of the main ways that ACA extends health care coverage are through the expansion of public insurance and modifications to the private health insurance market, including the establishment of health insurance marketplaces or exchanges.
